Mission of Church of the Holy Spirit
Giving thanks to God for redemption, deliverance and salvation, we will love Yahweh God with all of our heart, all of our soul, all of our strength, and all of our minds and we will love our neighbors as ourselves. (Luke 10:27) We will worship God, study and teach God’s Word, grow in spiritual maturity and Christ-likeness, serve the Lord and intentionally reach out to others locally and in the world with the love of Christ and the Gospel message of salvation. (Romans 1:16-17)
INTENTIONAL ACTION PLAN – 2007
By the grace of God and by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit:
1. We will strive to love God and love others and strive to share and proclaim the love of Christ in all situations.
2. We will provide meaningful worship and praise opportunities on Sundays and on Special occasions during the year.
3. We will study and teach God’s Word under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, continuing classes on Friday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and initiating classes on Thursday evenings. We encourage new home Bible studies and will provide assistance and prayers in initiating new studies. We will provide special teaching for the children during the Sunday Service.
4. We will embrace the mission of evangelizing our community and the world. We will continue to ask the Holy Spirit to show us more effective strategies for evangelism. We give thanks for synod’s Ablaze strategy.
5. We will seek to strengthen our relationship with the Alliance of Renewal Churches.
6. We will express our love to our neighborhood by relating in more meaningful ways to our neighborhood. We will attend neighborhood meetings. We will provide Christian music presentations and invite the community. We will again provide Christmas Caroling which was well received this past year.
7. We will continue to renovate the church with special emphasis on the needs of the handicapped and impaired.
8. Prayer Ministry: We will unite in prayer for the lost, the sick, the oppressed and those out of the Christian Community. We will strengthen our prayer unity through email, phone and visits.
9. Hospital Ministry: We will visit the sick and those in hospitals and nursing homes. Diana Graves will lead the ministry with the help of elders and wives.
10. We will create opportunity for friends, visitors, and young people to be involved in Bible Study, worship and faith building opportunities and evangelistic outreach. We will conduct vacation Bible School, tentatively in June. We give thanks for a fruitful VBS in 2006 with St. Peters Lutheran Church.
11. We will provide special worship and educational programs during the year with the intent of attracting non-Christians and Christians without church homes including a special services with Jay West and perhaps other out of town speakers.
12. We will encourage everybody to seek, find and fulfill their God given dreams and God given gifts.
13. We will love, embrace and provide special care to visitors, seekers and new people in Fellowship. We will write all visitors. We will intentionally respond to all who show some interest in hearing about Jesus or the church. We will expand the base of people committed to such outreach.
14. We will continue to provide ministry and love the helpless ones in our community including residents at the Attalla Nursing Home and the Ashville Manor Health Care. We will provide for the Homeless through the Love Center. We will seek other ways to expand our current ministry to the helpless. We will be especially sensitive to our members who become helpless in old age or disability.
15. We will be sensitive to new ministries and seek to provide encouragement and support as the Holy Spirit leads. We will resist the temptation to disregard new ideas because they are new.
16. We will provide substantial financial and prayer support to evangelistic and outreach ministries including Advancing Renewal Ministries (ARM) an evangelistic ministry headed by Dr. Art Vincent to India, Nepal and surrounding countries, Jason and Elizabeth Graves in Russia, Campus Crusade for Christ to China, (Sandy Melton’s jail ministry) LAMP Missionary Pilots in Alaska, Young Life, and Jews for Jesus, the Etowah County Pregnancy Testing Center, The Love Center, and The Etowah County Free Clinic. We will look for opportunities to expand our support of ministries of evangelism and compassion. We will continue to support Missouri Synod in outreach through our contributions to District and ARC.
17. We will seek opportunities to relate meaningfully to other churches in our community as the Holy Spirit leads because Jesus desires that the church be One (John 17). We want to bring the “walls” down within the Church. We support “Open Fellowship” with all Christian Churches. We give thanks that 8 churches partnered with Church of the Holy Spirit for the Autumn Youth Jam with Adam Gomez and Changed Forever Ministries.
18. Youth Outreach: We will build on the Autumn Youth Jam of last year. Myron will call together a Youth Outreach Team with the purpose of reaching youth for Christ through Outreach Events.
