An Introduction
We believe the local church is an extremely important part of God’s Plan of expanding the Kingdom of God. In introducing Church of the Holy Spirit, we want to explain some of our foundational beliefs:
Jesus Christ, Savior and Lord Holy Spirit, the indwelling presence of God who leads, empowers, equips, and counsels The Bible, God’s word, and the Handbook for Life and for the Church Faith, The key to receiving the promises and blessings of GodChurch of the Holy Spirit is a teaching church. Jesus commanded us to teach everything Christ taught. (Matthew 28-30). Through these lessons we teach and emphasize:
Who we are in ChristThe importance of worshipThe importance and value of fellowshipHow God has gifted us for ministry and serviceIn lesson five, we set out some “basic principles” of the church.Lesson six, is our current statement of the Mission of Church of the Holy Spirit.We are affiliated with the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. Lesson seven provides a brief statement of the Lutheran understanding of the Christian faith. We are not a traditional Lutheran Church. Our worship service differs from most Lutheran Churches. We seek to be led by the Spirit and we emphasize the infilling presence of the Holy Spirit.Christians use words that non-Christians are not familiar with. Sometimes new Christians are reluctant to ask what certain words and phrases mean. In lesson eight, we provide Foundational Truths in “Simple Terms” as a primer for understanding basic Christian words and concepts.The material often quotes Scripture. Most quotations are from The Good News Bible. We often use The Good News Bible because it is easier to understand than other translations. Different Christians prefer different translations of the Bible. Read the texts in different Bible translations to appreciate the full meaning of the text.
